Notes for Oliver PURCHASE
Note authorities differ whether Oliver and his wife died in England or in America. I've shown England because he isn't mentioned as immigrating in GMB, but this may be incorrect. He is the ancestor of Millard Fillmore thru his son Aquilla and Presidents Grant and Coolidge thru his daughter Joan. Or: PURCHIS Father of Joan according to Savage, and below. "Oliver Purchase -- Married Thomasine Harris, 1 June 1577, Holy Trinity, Dorchester, Dorset, England. Oliver died in England as did his wife. She has been called the widow Purchace [sic] in Dorchester,MA in 1633, but the widow Purchase was more likely the widow of Aquila Purchase who died at sea in 1633 coming to New England. Oliver Purchase's wife would have been a. age 76 in 1633." --- Burton Spear, *... Mary & John 1620*, v 17, 1992, p 122. Pioneers in Massachusetts, p.376 Oliver, of Dorchester, Eng., came in 1633 to our Dorchester. He died soon, as a grant of land was given to his widow in 1633. His son Oliver came with him; res. first at Dorchester., then rem. to Taunton; later to Lynn, and finally to Concord; was freeman Dec. 7, 1636; deposed at Lynn in 1665, he was about 48 years. His dau. Joan, b. about 1578, m. in Eng., Whit Monday, 1696, Bernard Capen, and came with him to Dorchester in 1633. The widow seems to be the person who m. ruling elder Thomas Oliver, of Boston, as his second wife, about 1642; and his dau.-in-law Sarah Purchase, adm. chh. Boston 31 (3) 1646, her child.
